If your dates are flexible, compare mid-January with mid-March: January has historically colder village temperatures; March has a milder seasonal pattern. For school-holiday trips, use the exact regional dates rather than treating February or Easter as one fixed week. Select a day below, then compare complete ski weeks.

The decision that matters
Opening / early December
First Tracks: 28–29 November. Men’s Critérium: 12–13 December. Early pass tariffs run through 11 December.
Choose the event or offer you want, then confirm the operating programme. Opening does not mean every lift or course runs.
Christmas / New Year
Christmas programme: 21–27 December; New Year’s Eve on 31 December.
French and Dutch Christmas breaks overlap 19 December–3 January. Choose festive dates rather than expecting low holiday overlap.
January
Historically colder village temperatures than March and April; mid-month follows the tracked Christmas breaks.
Compare 16–23 January. Nearby Tignes’ Mountain Shaker is 17–22 January, with a separate access and return journey.
February
An option when your own school dates fall here.
French zones together span 6 February–7 March. UK, Dutch and Swedish dates vary; match the school and region.
March
Historically milder village temperatures than January; Classicaval: 8–11 March.
Compare 13–20 March, with Northern Ireland’s 17 March holiday flagged. French winter breaks continue through 7 March; some spring breaks begin later in March.
April / final week
Adventure and Discovery Film Festival: 12–15 April. Late pass tariffs begin 24 April.
At least one French zone is on spring break throughout 3 April–2 May. A late date or lower pass price does not establish a cheaper whole trip or fewer visitors.
For a two-week shortlist, compare 16–23 January and 13–20 March with the same party, accommodation type and usable ski days. Collect quotes for both in the cost worksheet. Holiday overlap is a calendar comparison, not a headcount, price estimate or snow forecast.
Scheduled season: 28 November 2026–2 May 2027. The tool compares Saturday-to-Saturday stays; this is a comparison convention, not a resort-wide booking rule. Seven stay dates exclude checkout day.

How the shortlist works
The shortlist compares tracked school-holiday overlap, historical seasonal temperatures and published event dates. Holiday markets are treated equally. The first suggestion follows the total. When requested, a party-first or milder-timing alternative makes trade-offs visible even if its total is lower. Other ties favour matching more selected priorities, then earlier dates.
Less holiday overlap: one point per selected market with no tracked holiday day, reducing by 1/7 for each overlapping country-day. A country-day means one country with a tracked break on one stay date. Regions within one country never multiply the same day.
Colder winter skiing: 2 timing points for January–February, 1 for March, based on historical village temperatures.
Milder days: 1 timing point for March, 2 for April. The month is taken from the middle stay date.
Party: 2 points when an explicitly dated party event overlaps. Only events categorized as party contribute to this preference.
Off-piste: opens preparation guidance rather than ranking weeks.
