Compare an airport transfer with a train to Bourg-Saint-Maurice followed by the S82 bus or a pre-booked transfer. Val d’Isère has no railway station. The intercity bus station is in La Daille, so a Centre or Le Fornet stay usually adds one more local connection.
Choose the outward and return journeys together. A convenient arrival is only half a workable itinerary.
The onward connection
Choose the approach that fits your group, then compare the complete journey.
Shared transferA good fit when the scheduled departure and resort stop work for your group. Compare the wait after your flight and the final journey from the stop to your accommodation.Read moreShow less
Match both outward and return departures to your flights. Check service days, baggage, ski equipment and any age or child-seat rules.
Confirm the actual resort stop on your ticket. For a La Daille arrival, check whether an onward shuttle is arranged or you need the regular village network.
Read the missed-flight policy and last-service fallback before booking.
Private transferStart here if fewer handoffs matter most. Request one quote for your group and equipment, including your exact address, waiting time and delay handling.Read moreShow less
Confirm an exclusive vehicle, its passenger and luggage capacity, and any child seats. Compare the whole-party return price.
Agree the exact pickup and drop-off, vehicle type and property access. Ask whether there is a vehicle change at La Daille.
Check included waiting time, delay charges, cancellation terms and how to contact the driver.
Rail + final connectionChoose a rail-led journey when the train and final road connection fit together. Leave room for delays and agree a fallback for a missed last departure.Read moreShow less
Match the train to Bourg-Saint-Maurice with a date-specific S82 bus departure or a pre-booked transfer. Match their timetables before paying for non-changeable tickets.
The S82 boards beside the railway station and arrives at La Daille. Confirm the onward connection to your accommodation.
Check the return bus or transfer against the train, including time for bags and possible road delays.
In the daytime, plan to change at La Daille. This affects tour-operator and charter coaches as well as airport-transfer coaches, wherever your journey starts.
The tourist office publishes these drop-off rules for “other coaches”, alongside its separate listing of scheduled services:
08:00–20:00: passengers must be set down at La Daille bus station.
20:00–08:00: coaches may set down at a stop on the red, blue or yellow village-shuttle routes. Your booked service must actually offer that stop; permission alone is not a night-bus timetable.
Scheduled airport and regional buses use their advertised stops. Confirm the arrival and return pickup on your ticket rather than assuming the overnight drop-off permission covers both.
A minivan can provide a door-to-door arrival. Alpine Fleet, for example, offers a minivan final leg with its door-to-door service; property access remains subject to snow and local restrictions. Confirm the vehicle, exact address and any change at La Daille when booking. “Private transfer” alone does not tell you which vehicle will arrive.
Airport distance is only a starting point. Compare the whole journey on the dates you need.
The tourist office estimates about 3 hours by road from Geneva or Lyon, 2 hours from Chambéry and 2½ hours from Grenoble. Add baggage reclaim, waiting, scheduled stops and the final resort leg; holiday traffic and winter weather can extend the trip. The Col de l’Iseran road is closed in winter.
Start with the pickup sector. Ask your transfer or car-hire provider which sector and meeting point to use, then match that instruction to your arrival.
Confirm the pickup sector before you choose an onward booking.
Check delay handling and your exact resort drop-off.

BOURG-SAINT-MAURICE TO THE RESORT
Train, bus, then the final stop.
The train and road connection are separate parts of the journey. Match them before paying for non-changeable tickets.
Identify a train to Bourg-Saint-Maurice and a compatible onward departure. The S82 boards at the bus station beside the SNCF station.
Use the timetable for your selected service. Altibus describes the road leg as approximately 45 minutes, depending on conditions; this is not a protected connection.
Confirm the ticket’s boarding point, resort stop, luggage terms and reservation requirement. The intercity arrival is La Daille, rather than a railway station in Val d’Isère or a guaranteed hotel drop-off.
Follow the La Daille onward-transfer instructions, whether you have an arranged connection or are using the free Train Rouge towards the village and Le Fornet. Save the nearest stop and final directions.
Winter 2026/27 departures are not verified here.
On 7 October, Altibus still shows winter sales alerts for S82; the regional route page links a summer timetable through 29 November 2026. Neither establishes a December–April departure. Check the new timetable before treating a train/bus combination as settled.
Check your onward transfer arrangement before joining the village shuttle queue.
Find your connection. Regular coach services have dedicated platforms. Follow your transfer or tour operator’s onward instructions and identify the correct bay before moving your bags.
Check for an arranged group shuttle. Extra village-transfer buses can be organised for coach groups, alongside the regular Train Rouge. The organiser must send a completed form to the municipal police at least 24 hours ahead. Check whether your group has an arranged transfer and use its designated bay.
Use the regular network when that is your connection. For 28 November 2026–2 May 2027, the free Train Rouge links La Daille, Centre and Le Fornet about every ten minutes during the day. Legettaz and the Manchet side have other routes. Match the stop to your property entrance.
The dated winter page does not yet confirm the Red route’s last evening return. For a late arrival, agree the onward connection, luggage walk and key collection in advance. Confirm the return pickup separately.
Altibus advises at least an hour after flight arrival for an onward coach, reaching the airport three hours before a return flight, and reaching Bourg-Saint-Maurice or Moûtiers two hours before Eurostar. These are planning margins, not protection against disruption; follow the airline or train operator’s requirements too.
Check your operator’s delay instructions and last service. A missed final departure can mean a separately paid taxi or overnight stay.
